# Can't run /usr/local/bro/bin/bro correctly

&nbsp;&nbsp;Thanks

&nbsp;&nbsp;I have download \<bro-0.9-stable.tar.gz\>,and install it.

&nbsp;&nbsp;My OS is RedHat Linux 9.0,I enter a new terminal with user bro,  
&nbsp;&nbsp;typing: bro.rc start,it will run successfully,  
&nbsp;&nbsp;if I just run /usr/local/bro/bin/bro,it will report a error:Line 1:error:can't open bro.init

&nbsp;&nbsp;I can't understand them.  
&nbsp;&nbsp;help me  
&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hello !

Please use the latest version, unless you have a specific reason not to do  
so. You can get the lastest version from:  
ftp://bro-ids.org/bro-1.X-current.tar.gz  
&nbsp;&nbsp;

> &nbsp;&nbsp;if I just run /usr/local/bro/bin/bro,it will report a error:Line 1:error:can't open bro.init

You have to set the environment variable $BROPATH pointing to your policy  
directory. E.g.  
&nbsp;&nbsp;  
&nbsp;&nbsp;export BROPATH=/usr/local/bro/policy:/my/other/policy/directories/

Bro can then find bro.init which is located in the policy directory.
