# Update from zeek 7.0 to 8.x

Hello I have some issues when I tried to update from 7.0 to 8

Preparing to unpack …/0-zeek-8.0-core\_8.0.1-0\_amd64.deb … Unpacking zeek-8.0-core (8.0.1-0) … dpkg: error processing archive /tmp/apt-dpkg-install/0-zeek-8.0-core\_8.0.1-0\_amd64.deb (–unpack): trying to overwrite ‘/opt/zeek/bin/adtrace’, which is also in package zeek-7.0-core 7.0.0-0 dpkg-deb: error: paste subprocess was killed by signal (Broken pipe) Preparing to unpack …/1-zeekctl-8.0\_8.0.1-0\_amd64.deb … Unpacking zeekctl-8.0 (8.0.1-0) … dpkg: error processing archive /tmp/apt-dpkg-install/1-zeekctl-8.0\_8.0.1-0\_amd64.deb (–unpack):

Is not clear for me what s the best and easiest way for update, will be nice to be available in the official documentation, do you recommend to just remove the old configuration and paste the etc files ( networks.cfg, node.cfg and zeekctl.cfg ) and the site directory and unbundle the packages ?

You first need to uninstall the uninstall the packages related to zeek-7.0, e.g., `zeek-7.0-core` and all others from that version.
