Error configuring Bro

Hi
While running the './configure' command in 'work' directory I get the following error.

any ideas about what might be causing the error?

checking if we should declare socket and friends... no
checking for gethostbyname... yes
checking for socket... yes
checking for putmsg in -lstr... no
checking for local pcap library... not found
checking for pcap_open_live in -lpcap... no
checking for pcap_open_live in -lpcap... no

../configure --enable-shippedpcap (other options) might work out for you.

What OS / platform? This may not be necessary..
