Per James’ suggestion I filed bug report BIT-1398. Does “haven’t supported” translate to “will not support”? It sounds as though there are some people like me who are actually leveraging this functionality.

Hah, I wouldn’t say that it translates to “will not support”. It just hasn’t risen to the level of anyone taking on testing and improving the functionality because I don’t believe it’s used much among the other developers.
