Zeek Week
At the beginning of the meeting, the LT discussed the progress of planning for Zeek Week. We now have a quote for the room; however, we are missing quotes for AV, catering, and have some additional questions about the room.
While there still are some questions about finances, we hope that we will be able to have a Zeek Week this year – and will send out a “save the date” in the next few days.
Zeek Team
The LT continued the discussion about the current state of the Zeek Team. For a more thorough discussion of what it means to be a Zeek Team member, please see our Technical Projects & Roles documentation. Historically, the Zeek Team consisted of the people employed by several different institutes that were actively working on Zeek.
Nowadays, the Zeek team is essentially defunct. The LT decided that the Zeek team no longer makes sense with the current project structure. We will remove the remaining mentions of it, and instead have an open channel that is used to search for volunteers and project communication.
The future of having a contribution ladder for the Zeek project was also mentioned, but not discussed in depth – we don’t think we have enough contributors for this to be a priority at the moment.
As part of this, we will remove and review the RACI matrix that was created by the LT. We also plan to make the current state of the matrix public in the near term future.
California benefits corporation
There has not been any news about the establishment of the California benefits corporation – this is currently waiting for lawyer feedback.
Zeek project survey
The Zeek team discussed if we should do another community survey, like at the beginning of last year. We decided that this would be a good idea. There was a short discussion on if we should focus the survey on a specific area, or if it should be similar to the survey of last year, for easy comparability.
We don’t have a fixed timeline on when the new survey will come out, but we will, as always, announce it on all community channels.
Training
The NSF cybersecurity summit is happening in October; we currently plan to have a training there again.
